Daisy Long (nee Bogg) is a qualified social worker by background, who has spent a large part of her career working within integrated health and social care environments, providing and developing professional practice and leadership in health, social care and strategic settings.
Daisy is well published, and holds qualifications in Social Work, Counselling, Practice Education, Mental Capacity, Mental Health, ILM Mentoring, Leadership & Management, and Training. She is Visiting Fellow at the National Centre for Post Qualifying Social Work (NCPQSW) at Bournemouth University, a role she has held since 2015. She is also a member of BASW Professional Social Work magazine editorial advisory board. Daisy oversees our business and consultancy projects and has particular expertise in relation to mental health, mental capacity, adult safeguarding and social justice related areas. Director of People & Practice (Chief Social Worker)
Chloe is a qualified and Social Work England registered Social Worker who has worked in both voluntary sector and in statutory service settings, including practice as a Consultant Social Worker within children's safeguarding services.
Chloe holds qualifications in Social Work, Counselling, Diploma in Systemic Family Therapy, Practice Education, Management and Leadership and Training. Chloe is a practicing BIA and Practice Educator / Assessor. Chloe oversees our practice activity, including specialist assessment and our children and family offers. She also provides leadership across our ASYE / NQSW and Practice Education / Assessor programmes. |
Deputy Director of Operations
Russ is a member of the DCC-i senior management team and has had a varied career history. From Publican through to listed building property maintenance and IT Support. During the early stages of the 2020 pandemic, Russ put his skills to good use and built us a new home office (follow us on Facebook to see the pad!)
Russ (ably assisted by Bumble the tech dog), coordinates and manages our IT support and MS Teams services, and all the things the rest of us hate! Health & Safety, GDPR and those sorts of things. He is also our inhouse #DJRuss and is the first point of contact for anything tech or online delivery related. |
Deputy Director of Business
Russ Appleton is the newest member of the DCC-i senior management team, vying for most varied job history with the other Russ. Russ Appleton has done everything from Climbing Wall Instructor to Cinema Technician, however for much of his career he has worked in a variety of office-based positions including sales, logistics, HR, recruitment and most recently purchasing for an international communications firm, where he has also overseen compliance and quality assurance.
Russ (most likely hampered by the non-tech dog; Erik the destroyer) will be transferring his business, compliance and quality skills over to DCC-I, supporting with compliance for our external accreditations and involved in project and contract management. |

Tony is an Social Work England registered Social Worker with 25 years experience in both the voluntary & statutory sectors of social care.
Since qualifying as a Social Worker, Tony has held academic positions at a number of British universities, as well as spending time as a children's social care practitioner. Tony is an experienced motivational interviewing practitioner and trainer. As one of our core crew, Tony specialises in Motivational Interviewing an its application in practice as a means to improve the quality of child & family safeguarding. |
Gavin has worked in Health and Social Care for over two decades, as a practitioner, manager, and trainer. He considers himself fortunate to have had a varied career path, which has included coordinating countywide harm reduction strategies and services, through to holding CQC Registered manager posts within residential therapeutic community provisions.
Gavin has worked as a national training lead and within national risk and assurance/clinical compliance teams, as well as in business development, and he believes passionately in person-centred approaches, having spent many years designing and delivering therapeutic interventions to help people find their own understandings, agency, and self-efficacy. Gavin holds formal qualifications in training and therapeutic approaches, and he says that through his career so far, of all the things he has learnt, the most important thing is that he knows that he hasn’t learned enough. Every day is a school day! |
Ezra is a Social Work England registered social worker, warranted Approved Mental Health Professional, qualified BIA and active Practice Educator. They have a decade's experience in a range of statutory mental health settings and specialises in working with people experiencing multiple exclusion homelessness. Prior to joining the crew, Ezra worked in a rough sleepers' mental health team in East London and has a expertise in multiple exclusion homelessness.
Ezra's has particular interest in Care Act 2014 s42 enquiries and self-neglect, the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and executive capacity, Mental Health Act assessments for street homeless people and trauma-informed care. Ezra has experience providing training for Social Work students, ASYE social workers and front-line practitioners in health and social care with the aim of promoting legal literacy and best practice when working with marginalised and "challenging to engage" populations. |
Kane has 16 years of social care experience working in both statutory and voluntary settings. Kane is a registered social worker and qualified independent advocate (previously a regional service manager). Kane currently practices as an Independent Social Worker - Expert Witness - for the Court of Protection (ISW), and, as an independent DoLS BIA specialising in complex assessments. Kane also practices as a Litigation Friend (s21A) and Rule 1.2 Rep.
Kane is a self-confessed legal nerd and is currently studying an Advanced Masters in Law [AMIL LLM] in International Human Rights Law. Kane is also in private practice and provides a range of advocacy and assessment services as well as being part of the DCC-i crew. |

Darren WorthingtonDarren is an independent business development consultant with fifteen years’ experience as CEO of nationally recognised not-for-profit organisations. He is also an MBA graduate with a special interest in helping charities and not-for-profits to prepare for and manage strategic change.
Darren also has experience of working with Government policy and advisory groups and has made many academic contributions over the years, including an advisory role to the ‘Breakthrough Britain: Addiction towards recovery’ strategy (2008) and contribution to the Home Affairs Select Committee ‘Drugs inquiry’ (2012). Darren has a particular interest and specialism in substance misuse service provision and is committed to ensuring high quality treatment is equitable and accessible to all. |
Sarah CresswellSarah is a qualified and registered SWE social worker, who has worked in statutory childrens services in Assessment, CiN and Front Door teams. She has spent the last 8 years as a team manager in a MASH before migrating to Europe and moving into charity sector practice.
Sarah has a degree in Psychology and a Masters in Social Work. She is trained in both Systemic Practice and Signs of Safety. Sarah has a particular interest in domestic abuse and has been a representative at MARAC and Midwifery Hub on this topic. She is also experienced in risk assessment and passionate about ensuring that the right outcomes are reached for children and their families, at the right time. |
Karen NeedlerKaren is a qualified Social Worker, registered with Social Work England, with over 10 years experience. Her background is mainly in child protection statutory services, working therapeutically with fostering families, working with children and adults with disabilities and working as a Children’s Guardian for Cafcass.
Karen has worked with a wide range of families and been lucky enough to work on adoption and surrogacy cases. Karen is passionate about improving outcomes for children who are at risk or cared for by the local authority. She loves completing direct work with children and ensuring their voices are heard and shine through in her work. Karen enjoys working in partnership with families to promote positive and effective change. |
Tim Spencer-Lane |
Kim DetjenKim qualified as a Social Worker in St Louis, Missouri in 1999 and has over 20 years’ experience in Children and Families Social Work. She worked as a Paediatric Medical Social Worker in a Children’s Hospital in St Louis for 5yrs and worked as a Family Therapist before moving to the UK in 2005 and holding Senior Social Worker and Team Manager roles in Statutory Safeguarding, Assessment and Access Teams for 8years working with early help, CIN, CP and LAC Cases. From 2013 until 2021 Kim held the post of Senior Social Work Lecturer at the University of East London with specialisms in Domestic Abuse, Human Growth and Development, Children and Families, Social Work Legislation and Policy and Communication Skills. Kim remains registered and in practice and regularly undertakes Independently commissioned work for local authority Children’s Services conducting Form F Assessments, Connected Persons Assessments and Special Guardianship. She continues to be involved in social work education.

Andy BroughtonAndy is a qualified and Social Work England registered social worker with over 12 years’ experience working in the field of adult mental health. He is a qualified, independent Best Interests Assessor and Practice Educator, and is currently working towards his AMHP qualification.
Previously working for 10 years in Neuropsychiatry within an inpatient setting, specialising in brain injury, dementia and Huntington’s disease, Andy has experience in Mental Capacity Act and Mental Health Act matters, including assessments, tribunals, and the interface. These days Andy is working as a practitioner for his local Trust’s Criminal Justice Liaison and Diversion Team, identifying and supporting people with any given vulnerability as they go through the criminal justice system and helping them access the services they may need. Andy has recently joined BASW’s Criminal Justice Group, with a keen interest in this area. Along side his day job, Andy is a qualified and practicing AMHP, and a Best Interests Assessor on behalf of his Local Authority and as one of the DCC-i Practitioner Crew. |
Alan SwiftAlan is a recently retired fire officer completing 25 years’ service with West Midlands Fire Service, involved in several roles primarily managing teams in the Prevention department.
Supporting and advising on local, regional, and national levels regarding vulnerable adults on topics such as adult safeguarding, disabilities, fire risk and health inequalities, and supporting and empowering internal staff as a mentor and coach. Alan is an accomplished British Sign Language user and has achieved BSL level 6. He currently supports vulnerable adults in the community improving people’s lives and empowering them to de-clutter their homes - visit New Horizons Clearance for more details of Alan’s independent services. |
Robert McLeanRobert started his social work career 1982, and work experience spans from practitioner through to Head of Forensic Mental Health for Merseycare NHS Trust.
Robert has recently retired as Associate Director of Social Care (Nominated Officer for Safeguarding in Secure Forensic Services) and returned to Forensic Social Care within the Trust as Development, Transformation & Project Lead. Robert also is a Clinical and Professional Advisor (Adult & Children's Services) for the Care Quality Commission. |
Soyeb AswatSoyeb is a Social Worker/BIA/AMHP and has worked in the health and social care sector for 25 Years. Soyeb has experience in working within Voluntary and Public Sector, with Young Carers, Fostering, Leaving Care and primarily in Mental Health.
Soyeb is currently a Social Work lead for two large NHS Trusts. Soyeb is passionate about Social Work, its values and ethics and how the profession gives financial gain but most importantly spiritual gain and satisfaction, what could be better! Soyeb's area of expertise is mental health and working with cases where there are issues around culture/religion. Soyeb supervises qualified Social Workers but also supports Newly Qualified Social Workers and organises and facilitates training to support them to maintain their CPD. Soyeb also delivers sessions his local university and facilitates research projects. |
Emad LiloEmad has 30 years experience in health and social care sectors. He has undertaken varied levels of responsibilities as a practitioner, manager, lecturer, trainer and researcher.
Emad has worked in the child protection field and over the years has specialised in mental health and he is currently practicing as both an AMHP and BIA Assessor. Emad is also Mental Health Act Reviewer and Specialist Advisor for the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and Chair of the National BAME Network, involved in the regional, national and international development of mental health services. Emad was the co-chair of the National AMHP Leads Network for 10 years, from 2011 - 2021. He is an honorary lecturer in one of the universities in Merseyside with experience of designing and delivery of teaching/learning for BA and MA level students including AMHP & BIA progammes. |
Dr Jill HemmingtonAs well as being one of our associates, Jill is Course Leader for UCLan’ qualifying and post-qualifying AMHP education and training. She has worked within mental health services for over thirty years, from in-patient and community settings to Mental Health Social Work (MHSW) and MHSW integrated CMHT management. Jill qualified as an ASW in 2000 and acted as Practice Assessor and she continues to practice as an AMHP. She has also completed an MA in CBT With Individuals With Psychosis and Their Families.
Jill developed UCLan’s AMHP programme which she leads along with a suite of post-qualifying AMHP refresher events, all of which are delivered nationally and are tailored according to local workforce needs. Jill is an external panel member for a Local Authority’s qualified AMHP reapproval panel and an Education and Quality Inspector for AMHP and BIA programmes for Social Work England. Jill is a founder member of the AMHP Research Group (ARG), a group co-opted to the national AMHP Leads Network, and she supports current national AMHP Workforce Development initiatives. Jill is a Specialist Lay Member in the Mental Health Tribunal service. |
Anita GurryProfessional Advisor
(Social Work & Children & Families) Anita is registered with Social Work England as a social worker and has worked in the health and social care sector for over 40 years. Generically trained and experienced, Anita has worked across all service user groups and at all levels in statutory organisations.
Anita is a warranted and practising AMHP and successfully completed her BIA qualification in December 2021 and undertakes BIA and Re X assessments, as well as acting as PRPR for a small number of individuals. She has a particular interest in children and adolescent mental health, Deprivation of Liberty, MCA and the impact of trauma on the lived experience of children and adults. |
